Winter Activities
Besides down hill skiing, the Aspen Snowmass area offers innumerable ways to enjoy winter activities. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are right out your back door, as well as tubing, and dogsled rides. Here are a few things to do right here in Snowmass.
Cross Country Skiing
The most extensive free Nordic trail system in the United States is found in and around Aspen—the area is home to more than 40 miles of trails that are often labeled "Aspen's 5th mountain". The Aspen/Snowmass Nordic Trail System links the villages of Aspen and Snowmass via the 9-mile long Owl Creek Trail. This trail system is complemented by beautiful views of the area's magnificent scenery.

Offering one of the best physical workouts, cross-country skiing is becoming one of Aspen's most popular off mountain activities. Ashcroft Ski Touring Unlimited provides over 25 miles of groomed and set trails for a mere $15 a day and lessons and rentals are also available.
Snowshoeing
Snowshoes are available for rent from Incline Sports in either Snowmass or Aspen. The Nordic trail system winds throughout the Snowmass area all the way to Aspen. This activity is perfect for the novice or the advanced snowshoer depending on what kind of workout or experience you want. The majority of the trails in Aspen and Snowmass are are shared with cross-country skiers so please stay off of the grooved tracks of the skiers. Ask the friendly staff at Incline and they will be happy to point you in the right direction.

For an experience like no other, take a snowmobile tour to the base of the Maroon Bells, the most photographed mountains in Aspen. Guided tours take visitors along miles of groomed trails that wind through beautiful forests and open up on to magnificent meadows. Have a hot cocoa at Maroon Lake, enjoy the views of Colorado’s winter scenery, and hop back on your snowmobile for an exhilarating ride back to town. Tours run three times a day.

Ever wanted to yell, “Mush!”? The Krabloonik Restaurant and Kennels offers visitors the chance to experience the Colorado outdoors from a dogsled and feel the power of being pulled behind 12 canines. This wonderful opportunity is a unique way of seeing Aspen’s wonderful winter scenery and provides memories that last forever. Dogsleds can hold up to two adults and one child and are led by an experienced ‘musher’, or guide. Two hour rides often include lunch. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind chance—only in Aspen!

Head to Snowmass for some serious family fun. Hop on an innertube and glide down the hill as the world whizzes by. Located on Assay Hill on Snowmass, Tube Town is open 1PM-8PM daily and costs $15 per visitor which includes unlimited runs and tube rental.
